Diabetic Educator

Andrew Maher is a Diabetes Nurse Practitioner and the founder of On Point Diabetes. He has created this private health service for adults with diabetes that strives to service the Lower Hunter area, with exciting plans to venture further!

He worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for 20years, been a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) since 2014 and in 2021 I completed his Masters of Nurse Practitioner (NP). Since then, he has loved the opportunity it provides to enable a more autonomous role in supporting his clients with diabetes.

He can sincerely walk alongside the clients with diabetes, as he too was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1993. This was the commencement of a big journey which inspired him to learn & develop professionally, so that he can be here now providing the best care and support to you! It's always been a dream to practice in the lower hunter area to lessen the burden of time to travel for individuals with diabetes to attend a diabetes specialist.

Living out what he says to others - taking life by the horns and going for it, led me to this exciting venture of jumping into private practice to provide care for adults with prediabetes, types 1 & 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus, with also a specific interest in men's health & exercise and nutrition in diabetes.

His approach integrates using up to date medical information, care & technology to support individuals after a diagnosis, providing education and clinical care on how to optimise your ongoing health with diabetes.

From October 1st 2023 we will only be bulking billing children 15 years and below and pension card holders 70 years and older for standard and long consultations. All other consultations or procedures will be private billed including Mental Health Care Plans.
